Breakfast overlooking the duck pond. Strolls high on the ridge above pastures of curious horses. Relaxing on a hillside bench with a panorama of the Bennington Valley. For a special birthday celebration weekend, this would be more than enough. But for Jennifer and I, there was a special treat. Tipped off by a mention on Taraden's website, I contacted Lively's Livery, a carriage-for-hire service. A carriage picked us up beside the duck pond and took us on an hour-long ride along back roads and through covered bridges tranquil Vermont twilight, dropping us off at a fine dining restaurant just a short stroll from our weekend retreat at Taraden. Bob and Nan don't hesitate to go far beyond the expected, such as offering us take-away loaves of corn bread and chocolate pecan bread after each of our two breakfasts. We snacked on them for hours after. Animals added warmth, including Rhythm the dog, a barnful of swallow, ducks splashing on the pond, jays, doves and trees full of birds, not to mention the horses and spoiled house cats. Although the Night Pasture suite was almost too comfortable to leave (thanks for the air conditioner and fan on this sultry weekend!), we walked for hours because we wanted to absorb the early summer beauty of a spectacular Vermont setting. We can't thank our hosts enough for making a birthday getaway especially enjoyable.

What a wonderful way to spend our weekend! We stayed in The Cottage for two nights. The space is large and all our needs were met. Small fridge in the kitchenette, large bathroom with an amazing shower, wide open space with a patio deck. Every morning a custom breakfast in the sun room overlooking the ducks on the pond. Nan and Bob are expert hosts who made us feel welcome and at home. The drive into town was short. There are many places to spend the day, hiking, picnicking, shopping, eating, or you can spend the day moseying around the property and just relaxing. I am already thinking about when we will be back and we've barely left!

Just stayed here last night while visiting Bennington for a tournament. This B&B is everything you would imagine in a Vermont B&B - picturesque, comfortable, clean, quaint and relaxing. Nan and Bob were extremely hospitable while not being overbearing. I arrived late and had not had dinner so Bob offered to go to a local restaurant to pick-up my take-out! I stayed in the west wing suite which was adorable, well-appointed and clean. I ate breakfast this morning in the greenhouse room overlooking the duck pond and barn. Food was very good, homemade maple cornbread with berry jam, vermont cheddar and mushroom omelette, steamed asparagus and bacon. Wonderful spot!

Located in North Bennington, this quaint and lovely bed and breakfast sits on 19 acres of Vermont farmland. The couple who run this place are very welcoming and attentive. They gave us suggestions on places to visit and were also lenient on breakfast time and checkout. Very accomidating. Best of all their food was so good. Everything from the presentation to the taste was excellent. It was comfortable and quiet, with a beautiful pond and the chance to watch horses grazing the hillside during breakfast. Overall, a wonderful home away from home.

What a beautiful and peaceful getaway! Nan & Bob were extremely welcoming and hospitable - what more could you ask for when you're greeted with a painting-worthy landscape, delicious breakfast, horses, cats, and even a dog and a fox! The Cottage room was quiet, clean, quaint, and comfortable - we didn't want to leave. If you love nature and hiking, make sure to check out Lye Brook Falls while you're in the area - don't stop until you get to the top! The only bad thing about staying at Taraden is that it will raise your expectation for every B&B you stay at after you've been there!

Beautiful and peaceful. I couldn't have asked for more on my anniversary. I enjoyed seeing all the horses, ducks and birds. There was a perfect four mile loop to run in the morning.
